HEALTHCARE BENEFITS

Salary And Benefits

Serving your country as a healthcare professional in the Air Force is an amazing responsibility. As a reward for your hard work, you're entitled to take advantage of the many benefits available.

Living expenses, including utilities and maintenance, are covered for those who choose to live in on-base housing/apartments. A monthly tax-free housing allowance is provided for off-base residents based on rank and geographic location to help pay for those extra living expenses.

Healthcare professionals receive a flat monthly food allowance and can also save by shopping at the tax-free, on-base department and grocery stores.

The Air Force strives to provide salaries that are competitive with those in the civilian sector. In addition to the regular Air Force pay as a commissioned officer, many health professionals receive special incentive pay, substantial annual bonuses, housing and clothing allowances, as well as tax-free shopping.

See Pay Chart.

You will be eligible to retire after 20 years of service with the Air Force. Plus the Air Force requires no payroll deductions for its retirement plan, making the Air Force's plan one of the earliest retirements around. All Airmen are also eligible for the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).

The Air Force provides comprehensive medical and dental care to all of its personnel. There are low-cost medical and dental plans available for your eligible family members as well. You are also qualified to receive group life and dental insurance at a very low cost. And as a member of the Air Force healthcare team, you won't have to worry about malpractice insurance. In addition, if you are temporarily disabled due to illness or injury, you'll still receive a salary.
