From flights around the world to low-cost golf course memberships, intramural sports leagues to tax-free shopping, we provide the resources you want to make the most of your free time. And when it's time to relax, our housing options, both on and off base, are attractive and affordable.
A City Created Just For You
Each Air Force base is a city created to meet the needs of you, your family and your country — everything you need to do your job and enjoy your free time is right on base. You may even choose to live on base in a home or apartment. Your family will also appreciate the on-base amenities, including schools, community centers and childcare programs, often located within walking distance of base housing.
Air Force bases are often located in beautiful and exciting locations. But if you’re interested in tax-free shopping, free golf, great restaurants and quality medical care, you’ll find yourself returning to base time and again. Best of all, you’ll meet friends who share your goals and are involved in your local community.
Most Air Force bases are home to:
Housing Options as Unique as You Are
Homes on base are designed to meet the needs of single officers and growing families. They’re also completely customizable — bring your own furniture and feel free to paint! Most residences feature attractive interiors, updated appliances, multiple bedrooms and baths and grassy backyards that can be landscaped as you see fit. Best of all, they’re often within walking distance of stores, schools, restaurants and churches.
If you choose to live off base, you’ll receive a housing allowance that will probably cover most of your rent. You’re free to choose where you live, but you’re sure to find yourself returning to base to enjoy the luxury of tax-free shopping, discounted groceries and free medical care that will help lower your overall cost of living.
Your World of Opportunity
As an officer, you’ll enjoy 30 days of vacation with pay (compared to civilian jobs that offer two weeks) during which you can take advantage of available space on Air Force aircraft. You can fly to exotic destinations, including Italy, Australia, England, Germany, Japan and almost any state in the U.S.
If you’re stationed internationally, your family will receive extensive aid to relocate. After they arrive, you can spend your free time together exploring your local area.
How do you want to play?
As an officer, it’s one of your duties to stay physically fit. Whether you’re into team sports like basketball or football or enjoy a friendly game of golf on the weekends, you’ll find your favorite activity on base.

Your Family Away From Home
When you join the Air Force, you become part of a family. You commit to something bigger than yourself — an understanding support group that’s second to none. Your spouse and children will also become part of the larger family on base. They’ll enjoy access to a wide variety of valuable family benefits, programs and amenities, not to mention friendships with families who can help all of you become comfortable with your new way of life.
